Trying to choose flea control for my shi-tzu?

I have a shi-tzu and i am trying to select a flea control for him, but i am not sure which one to use, he was playing with a yorkie the other day and i guess he got fleas from the yorkie, I will buy clippers and some flea control to groom his hair and cut it so the fleas don't have a place to hide, but i want to know what anybody recommends for flea control, frontline, k-9 anvantix, frontline spot on. Please help me choose. Thank you.

Frontline or Advantage both work just fine if you use them every single month on the back of your dog's neck (part the hair and apply to skin).

If you want to repel ticks too, use Frontline Plus or Advantix.

People who claim this does not work either have the dogs in flea infested surroundings (their bedding, the sofa, the rugs in the house, their kennels, etc.) or do not put it on regularly without fail.

This works folks, I have used it on dozens of dogs and it always works, but first you need to get rid of the fleas in the dog's bedding and your house too.

I use frontline on my pug

I used Advantix for my long haired Doxie and it didn't work. She still had fleas. So I would say NOT Advantix. I haven't tried it yet myself but Frontline I had is good. I have tried Capstar which is a pill that they take that starting working in 30 minutes and only last 24 hr. Its more of a temporary fix but it works REALLY good. The fleas just fall off dead!!!

My mom has three dogs and had flea problems this summer. She called the vet and they actually gave different meds to each of the dogs. I'd call your vet and see what they recommend. They also said that there was an abnormally huge problem with fleas this year....weird.

Capstar worked for my mom's dogs, too.

i say k-9 advantix because it last a month and its still good even after you shower the dogs its best

Why would you want to put Insecticides on your dog or cat?

Make a lemon tonic then spray the lemon tonic on the dogs' skin, it repels fleas and doesn't dry out their skin, and doesn't smell bad, make the lemon tonic by the gallon and add 1/2 oz of tea tree oil to 1 gallon of the lemon tonic, do this because diluted tea tree oil is a natural anti-septic and if i'm seeing fleas the dogs have already been bit.

Lemon Skin Tonic:

bring 1 pint of water to a boil and remove from heat add 1 thinly sliced lemon allow to steep overnight or all day strain liquid

The liquid can be put into a spray bottle, squeeze bottle or just a container. Apply liberally to the coat of the dog and rub in so that the skin is wet.

Lemons are very good for the skin and contain limonene which is an effective insect repellent. The limonene actually dissolves fleas' waxy coating causing dehydration and death of the flea.

***I make a gallon of this at a time and add 0.5 oz of tea tree oil to the gallon bottle.
