Im a hairdresser, not a barber- so I only do about %30 mens cuts. I dont want to have to change my blades every time I need a different guard- isnt that what you have to do with the oster76'? They look like they would do great- just a lot of work. Ive tried various whal clippers and have had some bad luck. I need something that can cut really coarse hair-asian and african american hair.Has anyone used the andis- master improved? Please help- i dont want to buy another pair of expensive and crappy clippers.
Barbers and Hairdressers Oster or andis?
I have been a barber cosmotologist for 11 years, clientelle is 80 percent male. I have used both, and I have to say if you keep the andis master oiled, they last forever, and give a great cut, I use the red plastic universal guards, and have never had a problem. (unlike when I used a whall and the guards left lines in the cut) the oster does need the blades changed, (of course, the red universal does fit, but the cut is more easily blended with the blades, might be a better choice if you don't do a lot of men) my advise, buy one of each off of ebay, and use them, the oster is heavier than the andis master, and that might affect your cut. I know after a long 10 hour day, my arm felt like rubber after using the oster. Personally, I own at least 3 of both (yes, I am a clipper junkie) and switch off through out the day. hope this ramble helped.

I know what you mean. I'm also a hairdresser and I do between 40-50% men's cuts. I have had trouble with wahl, tried andis but I find forfex clippers to be the best I've worked with. However, you do still need to change the guards which is a bit of an inconvienece.
Barbers and Hairdressers Oster or andis?
I'm a professional and have used both Wahl and Oster. The wahl has plastic attachments and I have found them absolutely useless. The Oster is the best in my opinion. Yes, you have to buy a switch the metal blades, but the cut is cleaner and you don't have to repeat over the hair near as much as with the plastic attachments. You will get used to having to switch the blades. It takes me less time to switch the blades as it did to mess with and wiggle the plastic attachments onto the unit.
I hope this helps you with your decision. I haven't used the Andis-master. I had an Andis trimmer though and it was okay. I have an Oster trimmer now.
Honestly, I would have to say Oster, but not the Oster 76 specifically. The lack of adjustable blades may it a pain to use on my chrome dome. :) Here's an article with a little more information that may be helpful.
