Army haircut...?

My husband is in the Army and just bought clippers thinking that I knew how to cut hair. I did it for the first time today and it turned out OK. Any tips on how to "fade" a haircut?? He tried to tell me how the barbers did it, but I still need a little help from a woman's point of veiw.

easyiest way to fade themilitary haircut is to go around the ears with no guards at all on the clips. then with a 1 guard or 1.5 go over above what you just did with no guard, then with a 2 go straight up from the ears to the top maintaining a completey vertical movement. the top would be about a 3 with the guard. that should give you the right look. takes a bit of practice, but if you mess up easiest enough to give him a buzzzzzzz

Many stylists and barbers use length guards of decreasing depth to slowly graduate the length of the hair.

Once they閳ユ獫e reached the shortest length attainable with a guard, they may use the adjustable guide plate of the clippers themselves.

There is also the clippers-over-comb technique, where the stylist/barber uses a barbering comb (denoted by a wider end and a tapered end which has very finely spaced and short teeth) to create the tapering effect.
