I think Ive found the answer but would like some insight. Im thinking it is the same place nail clippers, lids for travel coffee mugs and hair accessories go.

the gnomes who turn the refrigarator light on and off(who are cousins of the ones whos steal the pieces of the puzzles) steal them and worship them!

When the dryer spins it opens up a worm hole to another dimension. What happens is the magnetic pull from the other dimension is only so strong and can't handle grabbing socks by the pair. It can only take one sock before it collapses upon itself.

Now that the spare sock has traveled to the other dimension it has turned into an anti-matter sock %26amp; can no longer come back to our dimension. If the sock does come back when the dryer worm hole opens again it would collide with its mate in this dimention and destroy both dimensions. That's why people don't put odd socks in the dryer after its mate is missing.

Usually, one sock will go down the drain, as your washer spins and it gets caught in the pump, and passes through there, to your drain in the sink and passes through there!

Or, it can get caught up in the filter of your washer..(some have them, most do not).

Also, it gets trapped behind the drum of the dryer, or gets sucked into the lint trap when you have a hole in it...But, I opt for the dryer drum because sometimes it works loose and the seal lets the blasted things get behind it...

(Yes, I have found quite a few in my dryer that way, when I serviced it).

i dont know. i was wondering myself, but they always turn up sooner or later..if u pin them together when u take them off to wash them. you will never lose another pair...*smiles*

Note to self...buy 10 pair of identical socks so won't notice when one goes missing....cool, eh?
