yes! those sissors and combs are pretty costly. I'm sure she would love to see her friends supporting her like that!

Maybe a really good straightener like a Chi??? Those are high quality (ceramic), and I think that now3adays, everyone uses them!

My mom was a hairdresser. I can remember my dad giving her a gold necklace with a gold %26amp; diamond scissors pendant. She wore it everyday.
As far as buying something she needs...like clippers...while it's practical for sure, might seem a bit impersonal. Good luck.

If you want to get her a really nice pair of scissors, they can be VERY expensive, like $400-500. I don't know if you were looking to spend THAT much. Decent pairs run $200-300. If you want to spend that it's an awesome idea! I sure would have appreciated a gift like that when I was in beaty school.
