I think my brother may be Bipolar and I would like to hear from anyone out there who is also Bipolar

How do you manage this disorder ? Are there any meds out there that are better for this condition than others ? My brother is only 25 years old...I'm 36. He gets so ill and somewhat violent with horrible language...over the slightest things. Like recently, he was trimming his crew-cut hair with clippers and then all of a sudden burst into a rage because the clippers weren't working properly. He was cussing horribly and even told me to shut the f**k up when I told him his hair looked fine. He also has a history of using drugs and alcohol, which amplifies his problem and temper. He can be calm and gentle, funny and comical. But usually he's anxious and somewhat paranoid and he has been involved in a shady lifestyle of dealing drugs, using them and he's wrecked many cars and has been in jail several times...the longest stay was about 6 months in which he recently got out and has had thise violent outburst and he talks about weird things. I'm starting to become afraid of him. Any a

I'm sorry - I'm not bipolar. But I hope that I can offer some insight. First of all, if his mood swings are short lived or if he rapidly changes from a happy phase to an angry phase, it is most likely not bipolar disorder. My suggestion would be more along the lines of borderline personality disorder. People with bipolar disorder may go through a month of manic bliss - happy with the world, spending more money then they have, acting almost ignorant of the consequences of their actions. They may then spiral to a month of depression.

Borderline personality disorder (BPD), however, is quite different. It seems to occur more in females than males, but what usually happens is the person will be acting normal until one incident (usually involving someone close to them doing something that the person with BPD feels is abrasive or abandoning) sets them into an angry fit. The cycle for BPD may be hours or days rather than months as is standard with bipolar disorder. The treatment for this is usually therapy and mood stabilizers, but sadly, these people typically never fully recover, which can be hell for the people who love and care for them.

On the other hand, it may just be that he has depression. Even though he may not seem depressed, males typically become easily enraged when they have depression (unlike females, who typically become sad or isolated). If you are concerned (and it definitely sounds like you are), you could recommend getting an appointment with a counselor. He may not like the idea, but you could also just try to talk with him daily about his activities and try your best to keep communication with him open... the problem may go away with time, as long as he has your social support!

Hope I've helped some!

I worked with a guy who i tried to befriend with a bipolar disorder.

One day he would be very friends with me giving me tomatoes from his garden and wanting me to exercise with him. He was always trying to play his guitar and a great interest in music.

But he was one of 9 children in his family and I know that this disorder ran in his family.

He took meds he was ok. but you could tell he had something wrong when he would fly of the handle at people over trivial things. I would strongly urge him to stay on his melds and keep seeking medical advice.

given your screen name, you probably have access to a better social lifestyle than he does. hook him up with some of your friends. he'll be happy in no time.

Family intervention, get him some help before he hurts himself.

This problem is to intense to tackle on your own. Call a family meeting express your feelings %26amp; fears, make this a team decision on how to enrich%26amp; possibly save your brothers life.

Sometimes you have to disengage from the situation if you"ve

tried all you can. You can"t help those who have no desire to help themselfs.

Ever heard "What will be, will be"

You can express yor concerns to your brother when the opportunity arrives that he"ll accept them without going into a rage.

Encourage your bro. to take Vit. B complex, Zinc,Vit.-C,a multivitamin with calcium%26amp;magnesium

Encourage him to eat fish-tuna, mackeral%26amp; herring are good.

Consume no sugar or products containing sugar.Avoid whole grain products that contain gluten.

Establish a regular routine- lack of sleep is a bad thing.

The drug called Lithium is freguently used in the manic state.

Doctors may also prescribe Paxil, Wellbutrin, Depakote for depressive episodes. The final choice is electroconvulsive therapy.

Psychotheraphy%26amp;self-help groups are very helpful.

Food allergies to Wheat, Sugar,Caffiene ????

Any thing to Save/Enrich a Life!!
